Spreading the Data culture within companies: 58% of managers face the challenge, 31% of employees are at a loss
Levallois-Perret, December 3, 2024
Micropole, an international consulting group specializing in data-driven business transformation, today publishes the results of a study conducted in partnership with OpinionWay on data culture in companies, involving a panel of 189 decision-makers and 503 employees. The results reveal the central role of data in corporate strategies, and highlight the obstacles to its adoption.
Data: the new driver of innovation and catalyst for change
The study confirms that data is now a fundamental element in the way businesses operate. When integrated at the heart of systems, data becomes a powerful lever for offering more effective solutions and responding to increasingly complex needs. This observation is shared by a large majority: 87% of managers and 83% of employees.
Data is no longer just a tool: it is profoundly transforming decision-making methods. According to 78% of respondents, it is changing the way strategic and operational choices are made. What's more, it is reshaping both internal processes and strategic approaches. For 90% of managers and 86% of employees, it is a natural driver of growth.
Beyond its expected role, data is now at the heart of strategic thinking about the raison d'être of companies. It is becoming a disruptive factor, capable of profoundly transforming existing business models. 84% of managers claim that a genuine data strategy has turned their business model around.
The study reveals that data is now a driver of innovation and a catalyst for transformation, redefining the contours of business success.
A two-speed data culture: a gap between management choices and employee expectations
The study highlights a striking gap between the ambitions of top management and the actual data practices of employees. While only 53% of employees surveyed claim to use data in their day-to-day work, this figure illustrates a reality: data strategy, although promoted to the top, is struggling to establish itself in operational usage.
For employees, the main obstacle to fully exploiting data in their work lies in a lack of knowledge and training (37%), followed by the difficulty of being supported in this transformation (31%). These expectations contrast with the response favored by managers: 54% of investments are made in technological tools to develop their data strategy.
This discrepancy is reflected in a low take-up rate: only 41% of employees claim to understand data-related investment decisions, reflecting a lack of involvement and communication in this strategic approach. This is a setback for managers, 58% of whom feel that it is difficult to encourage employees to use data.
To achieve our mission, which is to help our clients stay ahead of the game by exploiting the full potential of Data, we address three inseparable worlds.
But to fully exploit its potential, it's crucial that managers and employees embrace it as part of the same dynamic. Today, the tools are there, but without a real shared culture and appropriate support, the impact remains limited. The challenge is no longer technological, it's human: it's now a question of integrating data into the company's operational model, at every level of the organization and with every employee."
